This Privacy Policy explains how Connect Four Master ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use Connect Four Master (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data transparently and responsibly.
By downloading or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the App, the following information may be collected automatically:
Anonymous User Identifier — We use Firebase Anonymous Authentication to assign you a unique, randomly generated user ID. This ID is not linked to your name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifiable information. It is used solely to enable online multiplayer features such as room creation, matchmaking, and ELO rating tracking.
Gameplay Data — Move history, game outcomes, scores, and session statistics are stored locally on your device (using encrypted local storage) and, for online games, temporarily in our Firebase Firestore database to enable real-time gameplay sync.
Device Information — We may collect basic device information (device type, operating system version) for crash reporting and performance monitoring purposes only. This data is aggregated and not used to identify individual users.
1.2 Information You Optionally Provide
Display Name — If you choose to set a display name for online multiplayer, this name is stored locally on your device and, if you participate in online games, is associated with your anonymous user ID in our database. You are not required to use your real name.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect any of the following:
Name, email address, phone number, or any contact information
Precise or approximate geographic location
Contacts, call logs, or messaging data
Photos, camera, or microphone data
Health, fitness, or financial information
Browsing history or activity outside the App
Sensitive personal information of any kind
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected solely for the following purposes:
To enable core App functionality, including offline gameplay, AI opponents, statistics tracking, and achievements
To enable online multiplayer features — creating and joining game rooms, real-time move synchronisation, and ELO rating calculation
To store and display your gameplay statistics and progress locally on your device
To improve app performance and fix technical issues (using aggregated, anonymised diagnostic data only)
We do not use your information for advertising, marketing, profiling, or any purpose other than those listed above.
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage
Your game statistics, settings, achievements, replays, and daily challenge progress are stored locally on your device using Hive, a secure local database. This data does not leave your device unless you participate in online multiplayer.
3.2 Cloud Storage (Online Features Only)
When you use online multiplayer features, the following data is transmitted to and stored in Google Firebase Firestore:
Your anonymous user ID
Your optional display name (if set)
Game room data (board state, move history, current turn) — retained only while the game is active and for a short period afterward
Your ELO rating and online game record
All data transmitted to Firebase is encrypted in transit using TLS (HTTPS). Firebase data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure. For information about Google's security practices, see: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
3.3 Data Retention
Local data is retained on your device until you uninstall the App or clear app data
Online game room data in Firebase is automatically deleted within 30 days of the game ending
Your anonymous user ID and ELO rating are retained in Firebase as long as you use online features
Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all locally stored data. Your anonymous Firebase account is effectively abandoned (the ID is random and not linkable to you)
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for commercial purposes.
We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:
Service Providers — We use Google Firebase (operated by Google LLC) as our backend infrastructure for online multiplayer. Google processes data as a data processor on our behalf, subject to Google's privacy policies and data processing agreements.
Legal Requirements — We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, or investigate fraud.
Business Transfer — If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via an in-app notice or update to this Privacy Policy before any such transfer and will ensure your data continues to be protected under equivalent standards.
5. Children's Privacy
This App is suitable for users of all ages, including children under the age of 13. We are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States, the UK Children's Code, and applicable children's privacy laws globally.
Specifically:
We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children
The anonymous user ID we collect is a random identifier with no link to a child's identity
We do not serve behavioural or interest-based advertising to any users, including children
We do not allow children to share personal information within the App — the only optional user-facing data is a display name which we encourage parents to review
Online multiplayer connects users anonymously via randomly generated room codes — no social networking, direct messaging, or user discovery features exist
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information to us, please contact us at the email address below. We will promptly investigate and delete any such information.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your data:
6.1 Access and Portability
Your game statistics and settings are stored locally on your device and are directly accessible to you through the App's Statistics and Settings screens.
6.2 Deletion
To delete all locally stored data: go to Settings > Reset, or uninstall the App
To delete your anonymous online profile and ELO data from Firebase: contact us at the email address below with the subject line 'Data Deletion Request'. We will delete your data within 30 days
6.3 Opting Out of Online Features
Online multiplayer is entirely optional. You can use all offline game modes (vs AI, Pass & Play, Tournament, Daily Challenge) without any data leaving your device. Simply do not use the Online Multiplayer mode.
6.4 EU/EEA and UK Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR, including:
The right to access your personal data
The right to rectification of inaccurate data
The right to erasure ('right to be forgotten')
The right to restrict processing
The right to data portability
The right to object to processing
Our legal basis for processing your anonymous user ID and gameplay data for online features is legitimate interests (to provide the online multiplayer service you have actively chosen to use). You may withdraw this consent at any time by contacting us.
6.5 California Users (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. For any CCPA requests, contact us at the email address below.
7. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services. We encourage you to review their privacy policies:

We do not integrate any third-party advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs (beyond Firebase's basic crash reporting), or social media SDKs.

9. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information:
All data transmitted to Firebase is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher
Firebase Firestore security rules ensure only authorised participants can read or write game room data
Local data is stored using encrypted storage on supported Android devices
Anonymous authentication means a data breach of our Firebase database cannot be linked to your real-world identity
However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, App features, or applicable laws. When we make material changes, we will:
Update the 'Last Updated' date at the top of this policy
Notify you via an in-app notification or a notice on our website
Where required by law, obtain your consent before applying material changes
Your continued use of the App after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
